We have already discussed the drying time of the leather edge paint, and how it is possible to reduce the drying time using professional ovens, last year. However, we have decided to give more tips to whom has not the possibility to use an oven.
In general, only manufacturing companies are equipped with professional ovens, as it is really important to reduce production times when you have large productions.
So how a leather craftsman can solve this problem and how can he reduce the leather edge paint the drying time?
Simple, by using a device that surely everyone (or almost) have at home: the hairdryer. A practical and at the same time very effective solution.
The operating principle is the same as the oven, sending a blow of hot air on the surface of the edge to accelerate the time required for the paint to expel all the water. After this process the leather edge will be ready for the following working phases.
We use this solution too, especially during our experimental phases or when we're developing new products. This technique significantly reduces the drying times and allow us a faster development.
But be careful using the hairdryer: start gradually with a blow of warm air and keep some distance, to avoid the wiping out of the wet paint, and once it starts to solidify you can slowly bring the air blow closer together.
This method is even more effective than the oven because all the hot air is concentrated on one leather item and it is specifically focused on the leather edge. In this way the drying times will be even faster than in the oven.
You can have your leather edge completely dried in about 5-10 minutes.
